Good eats around the world…but mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area

1 Sep

Sumika Grill (Los Altos)

Many of our friends call us “foodies” (some even introduce us this way) but really, I would just say that we LOVE food and eating. I’m lazy so my cooking is motivated by being able to have good eats. Charlie, on the other hand, will perform due diligence and research on ingredients, producers, and cooking tools to ensure the best taste possible. At the same time, once he masters a recipe, he’s known to improvise and flavor dishes as he pleases. Me, I’m prone to measure every 1/4 teaspoon even if it’s my own creation.

In terms of eating out, I am the compulsive one; I start thinking about lunch (and so forth) as soon as we settle on where to eat for breakfast. When we travel, I a) plan every meal stop 2) carry a Plan B list of restaurants in case we deviate from the original travel route.

Anyway, so all this is just to give you some context about our eating and food habits as you read about places we’ve eaten (that we liked) for anyone who might be looking to try a new place. Of course, some places don’t need much promotion but it helps to know if any “institution” is worth all the hype, no?

Places we’ve eaten at that I will try to write about in the future:

  • French Laundry *On 2nd thought, I might decide to do this one last…in order to build up aniticipation

[Okay, I guess the rest will be either in order of “fame’ (according to me) or random, as they come to mind ]
